Norcross win with Peachtree Ridge loss leaves Blue Devils only region undefeated

John Urzua passed for more than 300 yards in leading North Gwinnett to a big region win against Peachtree Ridge.

The week began with both Norcross and Peachtree Ridge 5-1 overall and 3-0 in region play and tied for the lead in Region 7-AAAAAA with Collins Hill, Mill Creek and North Gwinnett all just one game back at 2-1 in league action and ended with the Blue Devils as the only team still undefeated in the region with the Lions, Bulldogs, Eagles and Hawks all one game behind the two-time defending state champions.

Malik Staples ran for a 51-yard TD for the Lions second score of the game, evening the score at 14-14.

North (5-2, 3-1) was on the road against Peachtree Ridge (5-2, 3-1) looking to bounce back from a loss to Norcross last week while the Lions were trying to extend their region mark to 4-0. After a first-half that saw both the Bulldogs and the Lions score 24 points, the second half was all North as the visitors scored 27 unanswered points to hand Peachtree Ridge their first region loss in convincing fashion, 51-24

Peachtree Ridge QB Chance Thrasher was under pressure most of the night and left the game in the fourth quarter after passing for nearly 300 yards.
