The Atlanta Braves announced the recipients of their 2015 Organization Awards last week, honoring the Minor League Pitchers and Players of the Year for each affiliate. Left-handed pitcher Manny Banuelos was named Gwinnett’s Pitcher of the Year, while third baseman Adonis Garcia was tabbed Gwinnett’s Player of the Year.

Banuelos, 24, went 6-2 with a 2.23 ERA in 16 starts for the G-Braves, his first season with the club after being acquired by Atlanta from the New York Yankees on January 1. On June 22 vs. Indianapolis, he tossed the first 9.0-inning complete game shutout of his career, allowing two hits and striking out five in a 2-0 win over the Indians. He was selected to represent the International League in the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game, but did not participate as Atlanta recalled him for his Major League debut on July 2. As of September 10, Banuelos was 1-4 with a 5.13 ERA in seven games, six starts for the Braves. He briefly rejoined the G-Braves during a rehab assignment on August 27 and pitched 2.0 scoreless innings vs. Norfolk.

Garcia, 30, batted .284 with 17 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 43 runs, 47 RBIs and five stolen bases in 87 games with the G-Braves, his first season with the club. The former New York Yankees’ farmhand joined Gwinnett’s Opening Day roster after signing with Atlanta as a minor league free agent on April 7. He ranked among IL leaders in batting (2nd, .351), hits (T-2nd, 47), doubles (T-2nd, 11), runs (T-3rd, 21), total bases (T-4th, 61) and RBIs (T-8th, 21) as of May 17, the day before he was purchased by the Braves for his Major League debut. After going 0-for-1 in two pinch-hit appearances from May 19-20, he was returned to Gwinnett where he played from May 23-July 24. Garcia was recalled again by Atlanta on July 25 and is batting .250 with nine doubles, seven home runs, 15 runs and 12 RBIs in 39 games as of September 10.

The Atlanta Braves will honor all 2015 Minor League Pitchers and Players of the Year in a special ceremony at Turner Field on Saturday, September 19 prior to the 7:10 p.m. game vs. the Philadelphia Phillies.

Despite posting a 77-67 mark, the Gwinnett Braves failed to qualify for the playoffs. Still, Gwinnett finished with its best record since the 2011.
