Gwinnett opens 2016 season at Norfolk on Thursday

The G-Braves open the 2016 season on Thursday against the Norfolk Tides in Virginia. The Coolray Field opener is Thursday, April 14.

The Gwinnett Braves will open the 2016 campaign with a seven-game road trip that begins in Virginia on Thursday against the Norfolk Tides. The G-Braves will play a four-game set with the Tides that will be followed by a three-game series against Durham.

Top franchise prospects Aaron Blair, Tyrell Jenkins, Mallex Smith and Rio Ruiz will begin the season with Gwinnett. The four are ranked in the MLB.com list of Atlanta Braves Top 30 Prospects. Right-handed hurlers Blair (No. 4) and Jenkins (No. 8) are both in the Top 10 while Smith (No.11), an outfielder, and Ruiz (No. 16), a third-baseman, are both in the Top 20.

Gwinnett is led by third-year manager Brian Snitker, pitching coach Marty Reed (sixth season), hitting coach John Moses (second season), coach Billy Nicholson (seventh season), coach Jose Mota (first season), athletic trainer Ricky Alcantara (first season) and strength and conditioning coach Jason Curry (third season).

Gwinnett will open the home schedule on Thursday, April 14 when Norfolk visits Coolray Field for a four-game series.
