South BK Seth Johnston 1

South Gwinnett, led by QB Seth Johnston (6), faces Lanier in one of the top county games of the GHSA Week 2 schedule. Image courtesy Brian Kirk.

The second week of the Georgia High School Association football regular season schedule includes three games that have been selected the GSR county pairings of the week.

Lanier @ South Gwinnett

Both Lanier (1-0) and South Gwinnett (1-0) had big wins on the opening weekend of the 2016 regular season with the Longhorns downing Northview by a 34-13 count, and the Comets beating Central Gwinnett by 23, 54-21.

Look for AAAAAA Lanier to come out on top of AAAAAAA South Gwinnett in this matchup because of a Longhorn offensive attack that is led by Marcko Baity, the Gwinnett Daily Post Week 1 Offensive Player of the Week. Baity racked up 286 yards and scored three times in the win over Northview.

Archer @ Peachtree Ridge

This is going to be a great non-league game between two AAAAAAA county teams that will be an indicator of where these squads are going to be come playoff time. Archer (0-1) needs a win to avoid a 0-2 start after losing to McEachern, 27-14, in the Corky Kell while Peachtree Ridge (1-0) is looking to build off their 20-9 defeat of McCallie.

Norcross Baron Radcliff 1

Norcross QB Baron Radcliff (9) can hurt defenses with his arm and his feet, so Collins Hill will need a strong effort to avoid a 0-2 start to their season. Image courtesy Arlington Wellington.

Norcross @ Collins Hill

The Norcross (1-0), Collins Hill (0-1) game is similar to the Archer @ Peachtree Ridge contest. The Eagles will need a win to avoid a 0-2 start to their season after an upset loss at the hands of the Shiloh Generals, 27-14, while the Blue Devils are coming off an impressive 46-14 blowout of the Walton Raiders as part of the Kell Classic.

The Norcross offense is likely to put up as many (or more) points against Collins Hill as Shiloh did, but the Devil defense is much tougher to score against, so look for Norcross to head home with the W.
