Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers recntly opened in Snellville, one of two new Gwinnett County locations.

This is the first in what will be a recurring column that will review Gwinnett County eating establishments in an effort to highlight both the good and the bad. Remember, the reviews will be based on my personal experiences, and yours may be different. As with all things, you should try it for yourself so that you can make your own judgments.

I visited the recently opened Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers located at 1770 Scenic Hwy., Snellville over the Labor Day Weekend, and was impressed with the entire experience. As a guy that grew up a fan of Steak and Shake, I was doubtful that Freddy’s would impress me-I was wrong.

I was hesitant to go in because of the number of people waiting in line combined with limited seating available due to the volume, but we (my wife and granddaughter were with me) decided to give it a try. We were all happy we did!

The pricing was reasonable, the food was outstanding, the speed and service were top-notch, and the custard options are numerous.

Freddy’s was co-founded in 2002 by brothers Bill and Randy Simon, and their friend and business partner, Scott Redler. The restaurant is named after the brothers’ father, Freddy Simon,

The menu options include some unique offerings. Of course there is the Freddy’s Original Double, but you can go with a Chicago Dog Freddy’s Style, a Double Steakburger California Style, or a Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich as well.

The sides available include shoestring fries, fried pickles, onion rings, and even applesauce.

The Frozen Custard options include sundaes, concretes and cones. The variety of treats alone will require several trips on my part just to sample all the possibilities.

On my first visit I went with the No. 1 combo – a Freddy’s Original Double with fries, and a Hawaiian Delight Concrete for the finale.

Great food, great service, and a great environment make Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers a welcomed addition to the food options in Snellville.
