Steam 2017 PO 1

Steam down Bliss to earn East title, the second for the franchise

The Atlanta Steam (3-2) defeated the Chicago Bliss (4-1) by a 14-6 score to earn the second East Conference title for the franchise in the second game of a LFL playoff doubleheader that opened with the Seattle Mist (5-0) easily defeating the Los Angeles Temptation (4-1), 24-6, to earn their third consecutive West Conference title.

Bliss 2017 PO

The loss ends the Bliss streak of four consecutive Legends Cup appearances.

The Atlanta win was their first over Chicago in a series that has seen the Bliss walk off the field as the victor seven consecutive times, including the 2015 and 2016 conference championship games as well as the 2014 Legends Cup. The Steam victory also brings to an end the Bliss run of four consecutive appearances in the Legends Cup, a streak made even more impressive by the fact that it includes two trips as West camps and a pair as the East winner.

Seattle has one league championship under their belt, while Atlanta is looking for thier first. The Steam will need to deliver an even better effort against the Mist than they did in the win against the Bliss if they are going to earn their first Legends Cup.

Considering that Atlanta is coming off what is arguable the biggest win in the history of the team, the momentum factor will lean toward the Steam, but Seattle is the best all-around team Atlanta has faced-a team that is not likely to make the number of mistakes made by Chicago-so the momentum advantage will fade quickly without a fast start by the Steam.

While the Atlanta defense forced turnovers, and delivered a critical 4th and short stop near the goal line that was instrumental in the win, the Steam offense managed only two touchdowns against Chicago. The good news for Atlanta fans is that the Chicago D is better than the one the Mist field, so another strong effort by the Steam defense combined with a higher-scoring night for the offense will result in a Legends Cup win, but that is easier said than done.
