After an 0-4 preseason, the Atlanta Falcons travel to Chicago to face the Bears for the season opener on Sunday and while this game will not define the season for the Birds, it will set a course. Head Coach Dan Quinn and his team want to start with a solid performance, and a road win in the Windy City would get Atlanta started in the right direction.

Having been named the 2016 league MVP and coming in with a new Offensive Coordinator, Matt Ryan will be shouldering more pressure to raise, or at least maintain, the level of offensive play that Falcon fans have become accustomed to. It is going to be tough to put as many points on the board as the offense did last season, but the team may have the personnel to do just that.

Chicago is looking to rebuild after letting all three of last season’s quarterbacks go and bringing in veterans Mike Gelnnon and Mark Sanchez with Glennon being projected as the starter, but then the Bears moved up to the second pick in the draft and took North Carolina QB Mitchell Trubisky.

While Trubisky looks to be the future of the team, Glennon will most likely get the opening day start. Word out of Chicago is that Sanchez has been better running the 2-miute offense, but Glennon has been the more consistent overall.

Trubisky opens the season No. 2 on the depth chart, but he has impressed during the preseason and his numbers as a junior in his final season (3,749 passing yards, 30 TDs/6 INTs, 68% completion %) indicate that he may take over the starting job before the season is over.

Look for Atlanta to open with an impressive road win that will ease the concern of some over a winless preseason.
