Georgia High School Football Daily (GHSFD) releases their weekly state football rankings on Monday, and their September 18 release includes five Gwinnett County teams, including the No. 1 team and three of the top five.

Grayson (3-0) sits atop the ranking with Archer (4-0) at No.3, Mill Creek (3-1) holding down the No. 5 slot, North Gwinnett (3-1) at No. 6 and Brookwood (2-2) entering the ranking at No.8.

The Rams, Hawks and Bulldogs were on bye weeks, but both Mill Creek (+1) and North Gwinnett (+2) saw their position improve while Grayson retained the top spot. The Tigers climbed a notch (+1) after defeating the Norcross Blue Devils on a last-minute scoring pass while Brookwood (NR) stunned the then No. 2 Packers of Colquitt County with a 17-point victory that moved them back into the ranking.

Gwinnett County is to Georgia high school football what the SEC is to the college game in that the teams suffer losses to each other which taints the won-loss record, but the out-of-county mark reflects the true strength of the teams. This is driven home when considering that the Hawks lone loss came to the Tigers and the Broncos losses have been to Archer and Walton, both currently in the Top 10, by a combined 15 points.

With region action heating up, each game is important as it relates to the post season. Pairings are going to be a big factor in which of these very good teams may earn a trip to the state championship game, so any losses in league play will impact the postseason results in a big way.
