Norcross infielder Jascanel Ferreras leads Region 7-AAAAAA in hitting (.421) and three other offensive categories.

Despite a 4-4 mark in Region 7-AAAAAA play, the Norcross Blue Devils are still in the chase for the region regular season title along with five other clubs. Mountain View (6-1) leads but North (6-2), Mill Creek (6-2), Peachtree Ridge (5-3), and Norcross are all within 2.5 games. I look for the Blue Devils to make a move up the ladder that will be led by an offensive attack that is averaging more than seven runs a game. Jascanel Ferreras leads that attack. The senior sits atop four of the six major hitting categories, and is second and third in the other two.

7-AAAAAA Standings

In addition to leading the region in Batting Average (.421), Slugging Percentage (.649), Runs Batted In (19), and On Base Percentage (.493) Ferreras trails Blue Devil teammate Griffin Helms in home runs and is third in Runs. Fererras’ totals are good for No. 2 in AAAAAA in RBI and No. 4 in Runs.

While Norcross is known more for their run production, they have a good staff of hurlers that has performed well overall. Junior Brooks Buckler leads the staff in both wins (6) and ERA (2.21) in 31.2 innings of work. His win total has him tied with Parkview Ace Mac Marshall for the AAAAAA lead.

Fellow senior J Thomas (1-3, 1.62) and sophomore G Stinson (2-1, 3.61) have combined for 43.0 innings and along with Buckler have tossed more than half of the innings Norcross has played. Overall, Devil pitching has posted a 2.88 ERA for the season.

This region is going to be a battle that includes two-thirds of the league that won’t be decided until the final week of the regular season.
