Mountain View continues to lead Region 7-AAAAAA baseball but four other teams, including a hot-hitting Norcross squad, are in striking position.

While Mountain View (9-2, 18-3), Peachtree Ridge (8-3, 15-6) and Mill Creek (7-3, 9-8) are all ahead of Norcross (6-4, 13-7) in Region 7-AAAAAA baseball entering this week’s action, the Blue Devils are quietly building momentum on the strength of an offensive attack that has Norcross hitters leading EVERY category as the home stretch of the regular season approaches.

After Monday’s games, Norcross trails Mountain View by 2.5 games, Peachtree Ridge by 1.5 and Mill Creek by 1.0 despite stringing together three consecutive wins. While the Blue Devils have been trying to close the gap between themselves and the teams in front of them, the Bears (3) and Lions (6) have put together winning streaks of their own. Watch for Norcross to continue their push and if either of the clubs ahead of them falter the Blue Devils will be in position to claim the season title.

7-AAAAAA Standings

The lineup that Norcross sends to the dish is the stuff of nightmares for opposing pitchers:

- Jascanel Ferreras leads the league in batting average (.421), slugging percentage (.649), runs batted in (19), and on base percentage (.493).

- Griffin Helms is No. 1 in home runs (3) and stolen bases (11) and is second fellow senior Fererras in average (.403), slugging percentage (.580), RBI (16), and on base percentage (.487).

-Jacob Gassert (.373), Trevor Craport (.362, 14 RBI) and Mike Perez (.349) are always a threat to reach base.

As their 7+ runs scored per game average confirms, the Norcross offense has been solid all season but the hurlers have been heating up and have been impressive over the last couple of weeks. Jordyn Thomas (1.62), Brooks Buckler (2.21, 6 W) and Graeme Stinson (3.61, 2 W) look like they are hitting their stride as the regular season nears conclusion.

Norcross will host Mountain View on Wednesday in a game that will do much to determine the region regular season champion. North Gwinnett (7-5, 12-10) is still in the mix and will face Mountain View on Friday in Mt. Airy, so there are still a number of scenarios for the regular season outcome. It is sure to be a finish that will see some great baseball across Gwinnett.
