The Atlanta Steam set for playoff meeting with Seattle this Saturday.
The Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Steam (3-1) will square off with the Seattle Mist (3-1), the runner-up in the Western Conference, this Saturday in the first of a two-game LFL playoff event to be played at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California. With Seattle averaging 50-points a game during the regular season and Atlanta just shy of 36 a game, the matchup has the makings of a high-scoring affair.
Steammates To Watch
Dakota Hughes leads the Steam to another postseason appearance.
Veteran QB Dakota Hughes leads the Steam offense into the post season and is coming off another solid regular season performance. Dakota had the second-best QB Rating (95.7) in the LFL and finished the regular season with 11 TDs and only 2 INTs, a 5 to 1 ratio that was best in the league.
Steam opening night 2016
I began covering the Atlanta Steam during their inagural LFL season in 2013, and since then have grown to respect the athletes that choose to give their time and energy to a game they love with little in return other than the opportuinity to compete at a high level on a national stage.
The Seattle Mist and Atlanta Steam met in the Legends Cup on Sunday with the Mist looking for their second LFL title and the Steam in search of their first. In what had been a back and forth game, Atlanta held a four-point advantage as the teams headed for the final quarter of the 2017 LFL season. Minutes later, Seattle scored a pair of touchdowns in 91 seconds, and then held Atlanta out of the end zone for the final four and a half minutes to earn the second Legends Cup for the franchise, 38-28.
Steam down Bliss to earn East title, the second for the franchise.
The Atlanta Steam (3-2) defeated the Chicago Bliss (4-1) by a 14-6 score to earn the second East Conference title for the franchise in the second game of a LFL playoff doubleheader that opened with the Seattle Mist (5-0) easily defeating the Los Angeles Temptation (4-1), 24-6, to earn their third consecutive West Conference title.
The Los Angeles Temptation (4-0) visited the Atlanta Steam (2-2) for the second straight season, and went home with a win-again. This time, LA came from behind in the final quarter to earn a 20-14 victory in a game that was just what the league was in need of heading to the post season-a competitve game. The game was the final one of the LFL regular season, but both teams have at least one more game this season as both head to their conference title games.
The Temptation celebrate thier undefeated regualr season (4-0) after thier come-from-behind road win against the Steam in the LFL regular season finale.
Los Angeles (3-0) @ Atlanta (2-1)
The LA and Atlanta contest should provide something the LFL is in dire need of-a good game. While both teams are locks for the post-season, both have much to play for in the regular season finale for the LFL.
Win or lose, Atlanta will meet the Chicago Bliss (pictured) in the East Conference tile game.
The Chicago Bliss (4-0) closed out their regular season with a 66-0 blowout of the Denver Dream (0-4) in Week 16 of the LFL 2017 season in what was also the season (and possibly the franchise) finale for Denver. As projected in last week’s preview, Chicago didn’t come close to the century mark, but left no doubt as to their preparedness for the Eastern Conference title game.
The Chicago Bliss (3-0) went on the road to play the Omaha Heart (1-3) in Week 15 of the LFL 2017 season in what was the regular season finale for the Heart. As expected, the Bliss scored early and often on the way to a 60-0 victory over an overmatched Omaha squad that played like they were just trying to get to the end of the season.
The Austin Acoustic (0-4) travelled to Washington state to take on the Seattle Mist (4-0) in Week 14 of the LFL 2017 regular season. Seattle looked impressive in a 62-6 win that was the regular season finale for both teams. Not that the W was a surprise, but the Mist putting 16 more points on the board while allowing 20 fewer than when the teams met to open the LFL season 13 weeks ago was.
The Atlanta Steam improved to 2-1 with a 36-point victory, 67-31, over the Austin Acoustic in Atlanta’s home opener in LFL Week 10 action. With the loss, Austin drops to 0-2 and will next face a good Los Angeles Temptation (1-0) squad at home in Week 11.
