After six seasons covering pro sports as a credentialed writer/photogrpaher in the Atlanta area, Mike began covering Gwinnett County High School sports in 2013 which led to the launch of GSR is a site that highlights prep and youth sports in Gwinnett County. While baseball. basketball, and football receive the majority of the attention, GSR will include updates and news on a variety of sports across the county.

GSR coverage of pro teams in the county began in June 2015.  

With many of the top athletes and teams in Georgia calling Gwinnett home, there is a never-ending stream of news and looks forward to becoming one of your favorite sports blogs for updates on the outstanding athletes in our county.

Despite losing to East Division rival New England (11-8) in the opening round of the National Lacrosse League playoffs, Georgia (8-11) had a successful year in Georgia after relocating from Minnesota ahead of the 2016 season.

The Georgia Swarm (8-10) will travel to New England to play the Black Wolves (10-8) on Saturday evening in the opening round of the National Lacrosse League playoffs. The Swarm finished third in the East Division while the Wolves were second. The victor will advance to face the Buffalo Bandits (13-5) to decide the division title.

The Georgia Swarm (7-10) was defeated by the New England Black Wolves (10-6) on Sunday in Week 17 National Lacrosse League action. The loss at Mohegan Sun Arena snaps the Swarm three-game win streak, but Georgia can still earn a trip to the playoffs with a win at home in the final week of the regular season against the Vancouver Stealth (5-11).

The Gwinnett Braves (10-5) sit atop the International League South Division after the first two weeks of the 2016 season. At 10-5, not only does Gwinnett lead the Durham Bulls (9-6) by a game in the division, they also have the best mark in the league. The G-Braves are 5-2 at Coolray Field, 5-3 on the road after 15 games.

The Georgia Swarm (5-9) took the Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Field on Sunday afternoon to face the Colorado Mammoth (10-4) with their postseason future barely alive and responded by delivering arguable the best game of the season on the way to a seven-goal victory against Colorado, 17-10, in Week 15 National Lacrosse League action.

Mt View 2016 Baseball

The Mountain View Bears remain the top ranked Gwinnett team in the most recent SCORE Atlanta 6A baseball ranking.

The Week 6 SCORE Atlanta AAAAAA baseball ranking that was released earlier this week has four Gwinnett County teams in the top six of the state ranking. The teams, Mountain View (No. 3), Collins Hill (No. 4), Norcross (No. 5), and Parkview (No. 6), are a combined 53-17 on the season with the majority of the losses coming in head-to-head competition.

Coolray 1 GSR

The G-Braves open the 2016 season on Thursday against the Norfolk Tides in Virginia. The Coolray Field opener is Thursday, April 14.

The Gwinnett Braves will open the 2016 campaign with a seven-game road trip that begins in Virginia on Thursday against the Norfolk Tides. The G-Braves will play a four-game set with the Tides that will be followed by a three-game series against Durham.

Austin Acoustics GSR

The Austin Acoustics will play their first LFL game on Saturday when they visit the Seattle Mist for Week 1 of the 2016 season. 

When the 2016 Legends Football League (LFL) opens on Saturday with the Austin Acoustics, one of three first-year teams in the league this season, visiting defending league champion Seattle Mist, Austin won’t be the only ones taking part in their first LFL game. Dessie Mitcheson will be making her first appearance as the LFL sideline reporter.

The Georgia Swarm (4-9) played host to the Buffalo Bandits (9-4) at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Field at Infinite Energy Arena in Week 14 of the National Lacrosse League on Saturday night knowing that their postseason life was at stake, but that didn’t help the home team hold a 4th quarter lead on the way to a 18-14 loss-the fifth straight for the club.

The Georgia Swarm (4-8) was home against the Calgary Roughnecks (6-7) on Friday night in a Week 13 non-division National Lacrosse League contest looking to end a three-game loss streak but, despite holding an 11-8 advantage late in the third quarter, the visitors scored six unanswered goals in the final quarter to go home with a 16-12 win.
